Get ready for IfSW NERD NIGHTs #21 SPECIAL at Dom im Berg on 26 June 2025! This time around, the spotlight’s on the amazing Slovenian trio Širom, bringing their unique sound to the stage. Then Graz’s own Dominik Kreuzer and Lain Iwakura team up for a fresh and adventurous set, followed by a DJ set by Zvonko (disko404) to keep the vibes going.
Brought to you by the Institute for Sonic Welfare with Pavelhaus and Grazer Spielstätten, and supported by SKIZA Kulturinformationszentrum and the Elevate festival, this edition of Nerd Nights continues the journey into spatial sound. Get ready to dive deep into immersive, experimental audio like only Nerd Nights can deliver!
ŠIROM
Širom is a Slovenian trio made up of Ana Kravanja, Samo Kutin, and Iztok Koren. Known for their use of handmade and acoustic instruments, they weave together textures from imagined traditions and experimental sound practices. Their music blurs the lines between folk, improvisation, and ritual, creating immersive, evolving performances that feel both ancient and otherworldly.

Based in Graz, Dominik is a multi-instrumentalist skilled in trumpet, tuba, trombone, electric and double bass, with deep roots in free improvisation since the early 1990s. He’s active in projects like the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra and Trapped In Styles, often exploring the intersection of brass and electronics. Dominik also runs Kulturkotter, a venue dedicated to experimental and improvised music.
Lain Iwakura, also based in Graz, is a sound and performance artist, DJ, and theorist known for her work in experimental audio and for co-running the influential labels Force Inc. and Mille Plateaux.
Typically, collective improvisations bring performers together to communicate through their instruments creating spontaneous musical conversations. But what happens when one instrument is plugged directly into another, allowing one performer to shape the other’s sound? The trumpet feeds into the electronics and tries to echo what comes out, creating a constantly shifting sound world where structure meets chaos. It’s either chaos or harmony — and that’s the journey voltaic pile-up invites you to join. Enjoy the ride.
